Chairman
Steve Hageman
Steve Hageman is the Chairman of the Board for Hageman Group. Steve was a founding partner of Remington Seeds, which grew to become the nation’s largest wholesale seed corn and seed soybean production, conditioning, and distribution company. Since its sale in 2013, Steve continues to be involved in the family’s legacy farming operation in Remington, Indiana, along with a business he co-founded, US Agriculture, a farmland investment advisory firm, based in Carmel, IN. He is involved in the family’s diversified commercial and multi-family real estate portfolio, focused primarily on investments in the Middle America.
He serves as Chairman of Conner Prairie Museum and in leadership positions for both Boone and Crockett, a conservation organization, and the Farm Foundation. Previously he was involved with the American Seed Trade Association, US Grains Council, Purdue College of Agriculture, and Indiana FFA Foundation. Steve and his wife, Sandy, created The Hageman Foundation to support organizations that promote leadership development, agriculture, and Christian values. They have 3 children, 6 grandchildren, and reside in Zionsville.

Shane S. Hageman
Shane Hageman is President of Hageman Group, a family office with expertise in real estate and agriculture. Prior to joining Hageman, Shane practiced real estate, estate planning, and general corporate law at Bose, McKinney & Evans. In addition to leading all investment and related activities at Hageman, Shane has been instrumental in several entrepreneurial initiatives within Hageman that have launched into stand-alone businesses.
Shane graduated from Purdue University with a B.S. in Agricultural Economics, B.A. in Political Science, and M.S. in Food and Agribusiness Management. He also holds an MBA and J.D. from Indiana University, Bloomington.
Shane serves on the following boards: Purdue Polytechnic High School, Indiana Young President’s Organization (YPO), Indianapolis Zoo, and the Center for Performing Arts in Carmel, IN. He is also a Director for the Hageman Foundation.
Shane and his wife, Jana, have two boys (Conrad and Christian).
Chief Investment Officer
Tom Peck
As Chief Investment Officer for Hageman Group, Tom oversees the company’s various investments and is the group leader of the real investment platform, which is the primary equity investor in more than $400 million of properties across the Midwest and Southeast. Prior to joining Hageman Group in 2013 Tom held positions over his 30-year real estate career including Executive Vice President of Real Estate at Meyer Najem, Chief Financial Officer at Lauth Group, and Senior Vice President of Investor Relations and Capital Markets at Duke Realty Corporation.
Tom holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration degrees from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business. He is also an adjunct real estate finance and investment instructor at the I.U. Kelley School of Business. In addition to his professional pursuits, Tom is actively involved with various community organizations in Central Indiana.
Tom and his wife, Karen, have two grown children (Austin and Alicia).
Chief Financial Officer
Anje Freehauf
Anje Freehauf is CFO of Hageman Group. Prior to joining Hageman, Anje worked for a local residential and industrial developer, INHP, and Deloitte.
Anje graduated from Indiana University with a B.S. in Accounting and a J.D. from Indiana University, Indianapolis.
Anje has two children, Sophia and Wyatt.
Vice President - Farm Operations
Hinnerk Wolters
Hinnerk Wolters is VP of Agriculture of Hageman Group. Prior to joining Hageman, Hinnerk worked with his family’s farming operation and then managed seed farm and plant operations at Trelay Seeds and Biddick, Inc. in southwest Wisconsin. In addition leading Hageman’s ag operations he is responsible for sourcing and developing new and entrepreneurial operations in Agriculture.
Hinnerk graduated from Purdue University with a B.S in Agricultural Economics, and an M.S. in Food and Agribusiness Management. He also holds an MBA from Indiana University.
Outside of work, Hinnerk is involved with Traders Point Christian Church leading a life group and a financial foundations education group.
Hinnerk and his wife JeriAnn have four boys. As a family they enjoy outdoor activities and traveling.
Managing Director - Hageman Capital
Xiao Yuan
Xiao Ou Yuan is the Managing Director of Hageman Capital, a capital provider for development projects through the purchase of Tax Increment Financing bonds on behalf of developers. Prior to joining Hageman Group, Xiao was a Principal at Fifth Third Securities, a regional investment banking firm, primarily focused on high yield municipal bond transactions in the Midwest.
Xiao is a graduate of Indiana University with a B.S. in Public Affairs, and a Master’s in Public Affairs. Xiao is actively involved in the Central Indiana community; he is an active member of the Penrod Society, and serves on the boards of the Center for Performing Arts, University High School, Reach for Youth, and the Carmel Clay Public Library.
Xiao and his wife, Lindsay reside in Carmel, Indiana.
Managing Director - Real Estate
Tom Dickey
Tom Dickey is responsible for identifying and executing on development and investment opportunities, focusing much of his work on public-private partnerships in the multifamily sector. Tom has been responsible for negotiating and structuring over $400 Million in public private partnerships both as an advisor to city government and as a private developer. Since joining Hageman in 2015, Tom has led the development of and investment in 1,160 multifamily units totaling over $250 Million in project costs.
Prior to joining Hageman Group, Tom served as the Director of Community Development for the City of Fishers, Indiana. Tom led the City’s downtown redevelopment and economic development efforts as well as the planning, zoning, and building services divisions. As a key advisor to Mayor Scott Fadness from 2012 to 2015, Tom led the creation and execution of a downtown redevelopment strategy that has resulted in over $500 Million of investment in downtown Fishers. Prior to the City of Fishers, Tom spent ten years at Duke Realty, both as a Senior Attorney and Vice President of Development.
Tom currently serves on the Board of Community Health Anderson and recently served as Chairman of the Board for the Cherish Center in Noblesville, Indiana and as Chairman of the Board for the Hamilton County Economic Development Corporation. Tom coaches power wheelchair soccer, serving as head coach of a central Indiana club team and as Assistant Coach of the United States National Power Soccer Team. Tom and his wife Peggy have five children and have been foster parents of many more.
Managing Director - Real Estate
Nathan Taulman
Nathan Taulman is Managing Director – Real Estate for Hageman Group, a family office with expertise in real estate and agriculture. Nathan has been with Hageman Group since 2013.
Nathan is a graduate of Purdue University with a B.S. in Food Science and M.S. in Agribusiness Management. He also holds an MBA from Indiana University.
Nathan and his wife, Erin, have three children. In his free time, Nathan enjoys running, fishing, watching his kids play sports, and cheering on the Boilermakers.
Director - Real Estate Accounting
Ashley Kurtz
Ashley Kurtz is Director of Real Estate Accounting at Hageman Group, responsible for overseeing financial reporting, assisting in capital transactions, communicating with investors, coordinating tax preparation as well as managing outsourced IT relationships.
Before joining Hageman Group in August 2015, Ashley served in various accounting roles at Browning Investments, LLC, Pedcor Companies, and BKD, LLP. She has over 15 years of accounting experience in the real estate industry.
Ashley is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Ball State University. She is a member of the Indiana CPA Society and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Ashley and her husband Gordon, live in Westfield with their three children (Beau, Stella, and Dane). In her free time, she enjoys traveling, reading, and watching sporting events.
In-House Counsel
Stephanie Kilpatrick
Stephanie (Steph) Kilpatrick is the first In-House Counsel for Hageman Group, signaling a growth milestone for the Company. Steph first practiced tort and contract law in her family’s Indianapolis firm for 9 years before relocating to Raleigh, NC where she opened and operated a real estate and real estate transactional law practice for more than 15 years. Since returning home to Indianapolis, she has served as counsel within a title company and its affiliated law practice and as attorney to housing and consumer legal aid, low-income clients as her ongoing commitment to serve the poor.
Steph holds her degrees from Indiana University- Bloomington (BA Media Communications) and Indiana University- Indianapolis School of Law (JD).
Steph is a life-long musician with ‘side-gigs’ that include Christian Church and Diocesan services and events; select chamber, jazz and orchestral groups; big band orchestra, and jazz combos. Her undergraduate studies included 2+ years within the IU School of Music.
Steph is a member of the Brothers and Sisters of Charity (BSCD). She has three (3) adult, above-average children one of whom is also a practicing attorney extending the ‘family business’ now to three (3) generations.
Director - Senior Lifestyle
Mark Branaman
Mark is responsible for identifying and executing development opportunities in the 55+ multifamily sector. Mark has been responsible for the development of over $350 Million and creating a pipeline of an additional $390 Million in the active adult space.
Prior to joining Hageman Group, Mark was a founding member and partner in Samaritan Senior Lifestyles Communities, LLC which developed two (2) 55+ Boutique Apartments with Total Project Costs of $45,000,000 in the Indianapolis market under the Encore brand name.
Prior to Samaritan, Mark was the Vice President of Development for Clover Management located in Buffalo, NY. Clover was the country’s largest developer, builder, and manager of Senior Apartments. Mark was responsible for overseeing the entire Development Division for the company. During his tenure, he was responsible for the development of over $300 Million and creating a project pipeline with an estimated Total Project Cost of an additional $390 Million.
Mark serves as a Member of the USTA Central Indiana Board of Directors and as a Member of the Indianapolis Tennis and Education Foundation Board of Directors. Mark and his wife Sherri have two children.
Controller
Laura Russelburg
Laura joined the Hageman Group as a Controller in 2021. Prior to joining Hageman, Laura worked in various positions in both the public and private accounting sectors. She has a variety of experience including corporate, partnership and individual taxation, financial statement preparation and analysis, human resources, ERP implementation, and investment accounting.
Laura received a B.S. in Accounting and Finance from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business. She is also a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Indiana.
Laura has three children (all boys!). In her free time she enjoys home DIY projects, traveling, and spending time with her family.
Controller
Sarah Brown
Sarah joined the Hageman Group as a Controller in 2019. Prior to joining Hageman, Sarah served in various accounting roles at Browning Investments, LLC, NVR, Inc., and Katz Sapper Miller, LLP. She has a variety of experience including financial statement preparation and analysis, review of construction and development draw packages, as well as lender and investor reporting.
Sarah is a Certified Public Accountant and holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Accounting from Ball State University. She is also a member of the Indiana CPA Society and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Sarah and her husband, Andy, live in Westfield with their three girls. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time with her family.
Senior Accountant
Susan Etzkorn
Susan Etzkorn joined Hageman Group in 2014 as the Accounting Manager for the farm and real estate divisions. Prior to joining Hageman Group, she served in a variety of accounting and management roles for several family offices and private companies. She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Madison with a B.S. in Accounting and Management & Human Resources.
Susan and her husband Kevin have three children and a granddaughter, Violet. In her spare time, Susan enjoys traveling and spending time with family.
Senior Accountant
Ethan Howard
Ethan joined the Hageman Group as a Senior Accountant in 2022. Prior to joining Hageman, Ethan worked as a staff accountant in the public accounting sector for both EY and Capin Crouse, LLP. He has a variety of experience including information technology audits, non-profit accounting and auditing, and financial statement preparation and analysis.
Ethan is a Certified Public Accountant in both Indiana and Tennessee. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Ethan is also a member of the Indiana CPA Society and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Ethan and his fiancée, Nikki, live in Carmel and are members of College Park Church. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, and cheering on his wide variety of sports teams.
AP / Executive Assistant
Kelli Van Tassel
Kelli Van Tassel started with Hageman Group in 2013 when the company formed and moved their offices to Indianapolis. Kelli joined the company as an administrative assistant. She has helped with many facets of the business and continues to this day. She has a degree from Florida State University. Kelli presently works remotely from Florida.
PT Office Assistant
Michele Luce
Michele Luce joined Hageman Group in January 2019. Prior to joining Hageman Group, she was involved on the inorganic and organic chemistry bench for several companies before transitioning to the Customer Service Industry. Prior to her leave to raise her family, Michele was the Customer Service Manager for a domestic flexible packaging company that supplied several multinational corporations in the food, medical, and industrial markets, respectively.
Michele grew up working on her family’s grain and livestock farm in central Illinois. She holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Agriculture from SIU-C. Michele enjoys volunteering at Good Samaritan Network of Hamilton County and at the National FFA Convention. She and her husband, Eric, have three children.
